Carnaval: things to do in Malaga

A celebration of joy and fun. Image source: https://www.laopiniondemalaga.es/

1. Enjoy one of the most exciting Carnival celebrations in Spain

If you’re wondering what to do in Malaga in February, you should know that it’s the time for the famous Malaga Carnival. And we really do love this celebration in Spain! Especially when it’s in Malaga… For nine days and nights, the city hosts one of its most fun and entertaining events. A pagan festivity in which music, light, and colour are always present. Carnival floats, parades, competitions, and activities, the unique “Batalla de las Flores” (Battle of the Flowers), and, to top it all off, the “Entierro del Boquerón” (the burial of the anchovy). This great fiesta begins forty days before Palm Sunday, so its dates vary from year to year.

*In the rest of Spain, it is celebrated the burial of the sardine (instead of anchovy). This is due to the fact that Malaga’s inhabitants are known as “boquerones” (anchovies).

2. Treat yourself to a romantic getaway for Valentine’s Day

Absolutely! February is the month of love and Malaga is a city to fall in love with. So what could be better than coming here to celebrate Valentine’s Day? If you are in love and want to surprise your sweetheart, a romantic trip to the capital of the Costa del Sol will be more convincing than a little arrow from Cupid himself.

By the by, at Coeo we have some lovely apartments in the historic centre of Malaga.

3. Delight in Malaga’s gastronomy

It goes without saying that gastronomy is one of Malaga’s main attractions. Situated between the sea and the mountains, this city of Phoenician origin is a delight for the palate. With a deep-rooted culinary tradition and an irresistible gastronomic offering, February is the ideal month to sample some of its delights. These include typical carnival sweets such as fritters, “orejas de Carnaval” (carnival ears), and “locas de Málaga” (Malaga crazy ones). And of course, tapas are a must.

At Coeo, we propose you to discover the city’s tasty offerings and more at our new Brunch & Bistro Bartola. Come and enjoy the best gastronomy in the heart of the old town.

Visiting “La Manquita” in February will be more rewarding

4. Stroll the city at your leisure

Another of the things to do in Malaga in February is to visit the historic centre. Can you imagine strolling around without the crowds at the main attractions, and with fewer tourists than at other times of the year? Of course, this excludes the days of Carnival!

While Malaga is undoubtedly a year-round destination that attracts visitors throughout the year, it’s also true that there are times when waiting times are shorter, and the holidays can be quieter and more enjoyable.

5. Learn to dance salsa

Another of the great plans we have for your February getaway in Malaga is to learn to dance salsa. Fun, isn’t it? At Coeo, we really want our guests to have a complete and truly unforgettable experience during their stay here.

That’s why we often organise different types of activities, all of them very interesting! For example, the Salsa course, which takes place in the port of Malaga, in front of the sea, so you will enjoy it even more. As you know, we’ve got more than 300 sunny days in this city.

7. Art tour through the city’s museums

If you’re a lover of art and culture, you’ll already know that one of the top things to do in Malaga is to delve into its valuable museums and captivating artistic and cultural offerings. You’ll find the exhibitions of the month for the city on this link.

And remember that at Beatas Pod Hostel, we have a permanent urban art exhibition, and we often organise temporary expos featuring local artists. What is more, if you’re an art enthusiast, both our two hostels and our three aparthotels are decorated with works by various Málaga artists.

A very special way to discover the city

8. Dare to try a urban escape room

Another way to have fun, with family or friends, and a rather unusual (but fun) way to discover the city. For lovers of challenge and adventurous logic, an escape room is a great plan to enjoy to the full. See here all the proposals for this month in Malaga.

Volunteering in Malaga, things to do in Malaga in February

Coeo takes part in volunteer events where any help is always welcome

9. What about some volunteering with Coeo

We now have a different plan to propose, one that we’re sure will make you feel great. At Coeo, we organise a volunteering project once a month and invite anyone who wants to join us.

From picking up litter on the beach to visiting shelters or spending time with people in need, if you’d like to give a few hours of your time, just ask us at Coeo about our monthly volunteering project. We’ll thank you, and they’ll thank you too.

Wine & Paint

Always good vibes at Coeo

10. A Wine & Paint session with friends

Finally, another of our favourite things to do in Malaga in February is to have fun painting with friends. Whether old friends or new, it’s all the same. Let your inner artist come out with a paintbrush in one hand and a delicious glass of wine in the other. In a vibrant, lively, and fun atmosphere. Well, you can do just that at Coeo Beatas every Tuesday and Friday. Isn’t that a great plan?
