Malaga is not only known for its sunny beaches, vibrant life, historic monuments, and delicious cuisine. It also serves as a gateway to some of the most breathtaking natural and cultural attractions. On the Costa del Sol, in the province itself and even in Andalusia. At Coeo, we are aware of this. And that’s the reason why we offer our guests the possibility of exploring the magic of this land with three fabulous day trips from Malaga city. Here are three captivating proposals that promise to immerse you in the beauty and charm of the region. Are you up for it?
Caminito del Rey
One of our favourite day trips from Malaga is a spot about 60 km from the city. Located in the heart of the Guadalhorce Valley, the Caminito del Rey is a world-famous hiking route that winds through the spectacular scenery of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes natural park. The trail offers a thrilling adventure as it hugs the cliffs and crosses narrow suspended walkways.
The Caminito del Rey (it translates to King’s little path) takes between 3 and 4 hours at a leisurely pace. Enough to take in the stunning views of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes (Gaitanes gorge). And the turquoise waters of the Guadalhorce River too. Of course, the excursion is always done in small groups and under the continuous guidance of a professional guide.

The history of this wonderful place dates back to the 19th and 20th centuries. At that time, works were carried out in the area to create a series of railway and hydroelectric infrastructures. In fact, the Caminito del Rey was the path that the workers had to take every day to transport the material and carry out their work. All this, together with the spectacular nature of the place, resulted in this jewel: a combination of the human and the natural.
By the way, if you want to know why it is called Caminito del Rey, go and book this fantastic day trip from Malaga! An exciting experience for nature lovers and adventurers alike. Easy to do but not recommended for people with reduced mobility and vertigo problems. Contact us at our reception in Coeo Pod hostel, and we will be glad to provide you with further details.
Torcal de Antequera
To continue with the day trips from Malaga we propose at Coeo, we will now head towards the environs of Antequera. The Torcal de Antequera is a geological wonder located just 30 kilometres north of Malaga. This awesome karst landscape is a unique limestone mountain range that has been sculpted over millions of years by wind and water erosion. The result is a surreal scenery with spectacular rock formations and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
A day trip to the Torcal de Antequera promises a journey into otherworldly terrain. Entry is free and there are even signposted trails. However, to fully enjoy this unique natural wonder, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is highly recommended to have a specialised guide. The professional guide and the transport are included in the day trip that we organise for you at Coeo.
Get ready to enjoy a truly different hiking experience, with a great diversity of flora and fauna. As well as impressive karst formations. Look for the ammonites, those extinct marine creatures whose testimony is still present in the form of fossils all over the karst landscape. Undoubtedly, a geological treasure trove!

Nerja & Frigiliana
The last of the day trips from Malaga city we recommend you today (which you can book from Coeo) is a visit to these two iconic towns on the Costa del Sol. Nerja, situated just 50 kilometres east of Malaga, is known for its stunning beaches, crystal clear waters and the famous Balcón de Europa. This is a promenade offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, its white, narrow streets are full of charm, and plenty of little craft shops.
A few kilometres inland from the wonderful Nerja, we find Frigiliana, one of the most picturesque white villages in the whole of Spain. With its narrow cobbled streets, its walls full of flowerpots and its Moorish architecture… This pretty town invites you to step back in time. We suggest a delightful leisurely stroll through its labyrinthine narrow streets, its slopes and descents with breathtaking views. Enjoy its quaint cafes, shops, restaurants and immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of this charming white village.
All in all, if you are looking for a mix of coastal beauty and charming villages, you’re in the right place. A day trip from Malaga to Nerja and Frigiliana, as offered by Coeo, is an option you will love.
