Choose the right hostel
Yes, we are aware that if you have met us, it’s sure that you were looking for an original experience. One of our main features is the privacy we offer at Coeo Pod hostel. In any case, if you’re planning your first time in a hostel, make sure you check the accommodation reviews. Look for cleanliness, security, and ambience ratings. That way, you will be able to make a more appropriate choice!
Also, it’d be a good idea to consider the atmosphere. Some hostels are quite social and strive to offer a wide variety of social activities, while others are more relaxed. Pick one that suits your style, but keep in mind that you’ll have lots of fun when joining Coeo’s activities, soirées, day-trips and leisure proposals!
Of course, ensure the hostel is in a safe area and close to the places you plan to visit. With this in mind, let us tell you that we are located in the heart of the historic centre of Malaga. Safe, beautiful and handy!
Pack smart
If we talk about a traditional hostel, our recommendation for you would be to bring a small padlock for added security. Most hostels provide lockers, but at Coeo we provide you with a private pod with your own door and a smart lock.
Also, not to be disappointed on your first time in a hostel, think about packing a pair of earplugs and an eye mask. If you go for the classic shared dorm rooms, keep in mind that it can be noisy with people coming in and out. At Coeo, even if you have your own pod, there are still common areas for all guests, and that’s why we provide you with earplugs, to help you sleep better.
Flip-flops for the shower, toiletries and sport microfiber towels are essential, depending on where you go.
Respect the other guests
Try to be quiet at night or early in the morning, even though you have your own private pod. Try to be considerate by keeping noise to a minimum, especially at night or early in the morning. If you opt for a typical youth hostel and stay in a shared room, we advise you to respect personal space. So avoid spreading your belongings all over the room, and keep your stuff organised.
Another good idea is to label your food, if the hostel has a communal kitchen, and of course, clean up the provided kitchen space after yourself. At Coeo, we are surrounded by trendy restaurants, tasty tapas bars and charming cafés, so you will probably have no time to use our communal kitchen.
Back to respect, maybe the most important aspect -if this is your first time in a hostel- is that you try to be flexible and adaptable. The communal nature of hostels means you’ll be sharing a lot, so flexibility will make your stay more enjoyable.

Do your best to socialise
One of the most exciting things about staying in a hostel for the first time is the good vibes and social atmosphere one usually finds there. Much of that excitement indeed depends on how motivated you are. But leaving that apart, the difference between having a great experience or just a standard stay may lie in the activities you join. So, consider the hostel events and leisure proposals, even if you have already planned your own agenda. Tapas tours, pub crawls, walking tours, game nights, day-trips, salsa lessons, sports activities, art expos… These are great ways to meet other travellers. And you can find all this and much more at Coeo!
Follow the hostel rules
If this will be your first time in a hostel, another relevant aspect is to respect and follow the hostel’s particular rules. Most hostels have curfews or lockout periods for cleaning. So make sure you know when this may take place.
The same for check-in or check-out times, as these can be stricter than hotels. Be considerate with the hostel’s staff and with the following guests too, and don’t forget when you need to leave.
With the right mindset and preparation, your first time in a hostel will be comfy, fun, and a great way to meet like-minded travellers!
