Málaga is a city that shines bright 365 days a year, but when August arrives, it transforms into the world’s epicentre of joy. The Málaga Fair 2026 (Feria de Málaga) isn’t just a party; it’s a feeling that floods the streets, bringing locals and visitors from across the globe together in a vibrant blend of Andalusian tradition and cosmopolitan flair—the exact vibe we celebrate here at COEO.
If you’re planning your trip, get ready. Here is our definitive insider guide so you don’t miss a single beat.
When does the Málaga Fair 2026 start? Key Dates
Planning is essential if you want to survive (and thrive) during the festivities. If you’re wondering when the Málaga Fair begins, take note: the official inauguration and the switching on of the lights at the Real will take place on Saturday, 15th August.
However, the true Malagueño ritual starts on the night of Friday, 14th August. This is the night of the Pregón (opening proclamation) and the breathtaking fireworks display—or perhaps a cutting-edge drone show for 2026—that illuminates the entire bay. It’s the perfect evening to enjoy dinner and feel the city hold its breath before the grand explosion of joy.
Local Tip: The fireworks are stunning from the Port or Malagueta beach, but if you’re looking for something more exclusive, ask us at COEO about the best rooftop terraces!
How long does the Málaga Fair last?
The celebrations run until Saturday, 22nd August. In total, that’s eight days of non-stop music, dancing, and that unmistakable August atmosphere.
The most significant date is 19th August, a day steeped in history marking the incorporation of Málaga into the Crown of Castile by the Catholic Monarchs. It’s a local bank holiday, and the city truly pulls out all the stops.
Two Fairs in One: The Centre and The Real
Málaga is unique because it offers two distinct experiences. At COEO, we provide the perfect base to enjoy both sides of the coin seamlessly.
1. The Day Fair in the Historic Centre

From 12:00 to 18:00, the Old Town is the star of the show. Calle Larios is decorated with its famous awnings and flowers, turning into a promenade for pandas de verdiales (folk groups) and people dancing malagueñas and sevillanas.
Live Music: You’ll find the heart of the party in squares like Plaza de la Constitución or Plaza de las Flores.
The Atmosphere: It’s the perfect place to wear your flamenco dress or your smartest summer gear for those Instagram-worthy shots. Best of all? Our COEO accommodations are just a stone’s throw away.
2. The Night Fair at the “Real del Cortijo de Torres”

As the sun sets, the energy shifts to the Real. This massive fairground features hundreds of casetas (tents) which, unlike those in other Andalusian cities, are mostly public! You can walk in, eat, drink, and dance almost anywhere without an invitation.
Amusements: If you’re an adrenaline junkie, the “cacharritos” (fairground rides) area awaits.
The Entrance (La Portada): It’s tradition to meet under the Portada, a monumental structure illuminating the main entrance. “See you under the Portada!” is the official catchphrase.
Concerts, Culture, and Artists
The Municipal Auditorium is the stage where top artists perform every night. From the latest pop hits to traditional flamenco, these concerts are the perfect way to cap off the day.
Logistics: Getting there from COEO
Navigating Málaga during the fair requires a bit of local “know-how”. With COEO, forget the car and the stress of parking.
How to get to the Real from COEO: You couldn’t be better placed. Staying in the heart of the centre means you are just metres away from the main EMT (City Bus) stops. During the fair, they run special 24-hour services (like the F Line). Alternatively, the C1 Cercanías train (from Centro-Alameda station) will whisk you to the fairground in minutes. Getting to and from the night party has never been easier!
Gastronomy: The Taste of the Fair
You haven’t truly experienced the fair until you’ve tried these:
Cartojal Wine: The soul of the party. A sweet, pale wine served ice-cold in iconic pink glasses.
Pescaíto frito: Fried fish at its best—anchovies, hake, baby squid… fresh from the bay to your plate.
Málaga Wine: Try a Pajarete or a Moscatel in legendary taverns like El Pimpi to add a touch of heritage to your afternoon.
